This documentation is intended for the print server administrators. To manage your own personal print jobs, go to http://print.ncsu.edu and follow the instructions there.
How to perform important print related tasks:
- Cancel/Delete a Print Job
- Pause the Print Spooler
- Restart the Samba Print Server
- Reboot the print00 server
- Install/maintain the print00 server
Cancel or Delete A Print Job or
Pause the Print Spooler
In a web browser, open https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-bin/printer-status or navigate to the "Printer Status Page" tool in Sysnews .
Select the printer
Select "Manage Print Queues"
Select the Job and then the action you want to perform on it.
To pause or disable printing for a printer, you can click on the links in the graphical representation of the printers and queue.
Note that any changes made here will impact Linux/Solaris/Mac users as well as Windows users.
Restart the Samba Print Server
To restart the Samba Print Server from an ssh session, issue the following command:
sudo /sbin/service smb restart
To restart the Samba Print Server from Windows, use the same steps you would perform on a Windows host, namely
From within MMC, add the plugin "Computer Management" and identify print00.unity.ad.ncsu.edu as the target to be managed.
Select "Services" then "Print Spooler" You can restart samba from the Action menu, or any of the graphical widgets that mmc provides.
Reboot the print00 server
To reboot the print00 server, issue the following command from an ssh sesion:
sudo reboot
At this time the server must be restarted in this manner.
Install/maintain the print00 server
The print00 server is a stock "Realm" linux machine. Packages can be reviewed and upgraded via http://rhn.linux.ncsu.edu .
