Systems where both Veritas Netbackup and Antivirus programs are installed need to have both components configured with exclusions. Otherwise large cache temporary file(s) will not be released and deleted at the end of the backup session. The file has a name in the format of _vxfiVspCacheFile_*.*
These files are the cache files used by Veritas Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP) and are created as a normal part of a Windows client backup when VSP is enabled. At the end of the backup job, VSP will attempt to delete this cache file.
Solution:
1) Set the exclusion in NetBackup for the SWAP partition. The steps are:
- Open Netbackup - Backup, Archive and Restore
- Select File => NetBackup Client Properties
- Select the Exclude List tab
- exclude: the SWAP partition, such as, W:\*.* and the cache file:
_vxfivspcachefile*.*
2) Set the exclusion in Symantec Antivirus for the cache file. The steps are:
- Open local Symantec client console
- Select Configure => File System Auto-Protect => Exclusions => Files/Folders
- Browse to the location of the _vxfiVspCacheFile_*.* files at the root of each drive and select that file.
NOTE: A fairly robust set of exclusions (C:, D:, W:) can be
obtained from DFS space: itd\{applications or software} \Symantec\Antivirus\SAV-Veritas-Exclude.reg
